Why

Despite clear scientific warnings about climate change, governments and major corporations continue to invest in polluting fossil fuels. The world’s most vulnerable communities are bearing the brunt of this. Linha Vermelha was founded to bring people together, hold politicians accountable, and draw a line against the ongoing exploitation of nature.

Impact

Linha Vermelha's mission is to push for a rapid, just transition to a fossil-free, sustainable society. Its main goals are:

  • Stopping fossil fuel projects: Calling on governments and companies to stop new oil, gas and coal extraction.
  • Climate justice: Highlighting the most vulnerable groups, who bear the brunt of the climate crisis.
  • Systemic change: Encouraging public debate about the need for a sustainable economy and ecological balance.
  • Citizen participation: Motivating and training as many people as possible to stand up for the planet peacefully.
Actions
  • Organizing climate actions: Setting up high-profile, peaceful demonstrations, protests, and civil actions that make the “red line” visually visible.
  • Climate education & workshops: Organizing gatherings and debates about the impact of climate change and how citizens can play an active role.
  • Lobbying and political pressure: Submitting petitions and pressuring policymakers to establish ecological limits in law.
