Pioneers in Albanian nature conservation

PPNEA, founded as the first NGO for nature conservation in Albania in June 1991, is dedicated to protecting endangered species, ecosystems, and natural areas throughout Albania. Through scientific research, local engagement, and strategic partnerships, they achieve sustainable impact in biodiversity, landscapes, and the environment.

Why

In the period following the fall of communism, nature conservation was low on the agenda. PPNEA was founded in that context with a vision: to protect nature through public awareness, education, and policy pressure. Since then, they have played a crucial role in establishing national parks, protecting wetlands, and safeguarding endangered animals and habitats.
